Sam's Project Proposal

Introduction

What do you think the world's funniest joke is? A researcher tested it out in 2002 (see wikipedia). The joke they came up with, was not actually that funny, and was quite long:

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says, "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence; then a gun shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says, "OK, now what?"

I'd like to re-do this experiment over 20 years later, and see what the funniest joke is today, and how that's changed with social media.

Database

I think that this could start with an incredibly simple database just similar to the original test, with jokes, and votes. Eventually, the database could become more complex by adding scoring the jokes instead of selecting which one is better or worse, or maybe flagging which made you laugh.
