On this page, you can view crime statistics for different cities in San Mateo County. After scrolling down, you can click on the names of cities to view their information in the popup.

One example is that by clicking on East Palo Alto, you can see that they have an extremely high violent crime rate compared to the rest of San Mateo County, since the average violent crime rate is 2.4.

Another example is that if you click on Hillsborough, you can see that the violent crime rate is incredibly low, with only one violent crime. Because there was only one violent crime, you can't tell much from the rate at 0.09/1k people.

Glossary

Violent Crimes
This includes violent crimes like murder, assault, and robbery. Some may be confused between Robbery and Burglary. Robbery involves stealing from someone in their presence, while Burglary is done without the victim there.
Property Crimes
This includes property crimes like burglary, larceny/theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson.
Crime Rates
Crime rates indicate how many crimes happen per one thousand people. For example, if 10 crimes happen in a city with a population of 1,000, the crime rate would be 0.01.
